Lucan Update Sept/Oct 2024 - Part 2

October 18th NB - Further updates to written text below including SDCC confirming it will take my request on board and allow access to Lucan House and grounds while village green works are underway. Dates to follow…

Lucan Swimming Pool

I queried the Chief Executive on his report to the full Council in relation to Lucan Pool. The written report referred to in the video had this to say:

"Work continues at Lucan Leisure Campus with significant progress on electrical and external works, along with gym, reception and fitness studio areas as additional sub-contractors have returned to site. Completion of the building remains a challenge for key items such as the main pool hall, wet changing areas and commissioning of the mechanical and electrical installations, so we will examine how to facilitate earliest access for the operator to begin preparations for operational opening in phases as soon as possible in conjunction with the childcare and boxing facilities in the original building while we continue to intensively engage with the contractor for overall project completion."

As per the response given, we are now potentially due another site meeting in November, which suggests works won't be finished, and even if Aura Leisure do get to come in while some parts of the building are still being completed, it does not now look like a Jan/Feb opening is realistic. Once again I am not surprised and if you get a chance to meet me in person I am happy to go into more detail.

Lucan Village Green - Management response to trees supposed to be retained being cut down

SDCC were queried at the October full Council meeting on trees supposed to be retained, new planting works, stone retention and growth on Griffeen Bridge. While there was some information given in the video above, more was promised.

This information arrived on 18th October and I’ve attached it with a lot of other info at this link: https://www.paulgogarty.com/post/lucan-village-green-works

This includes for example previous commitments given on stonework as per image here.

Lucan House to open to public and consultation to begin this quarter

It was reiterated that the the consultation would commence "this quarter". I also asked whether Lucan House grounds could open prior to consultation so residents of Lucan can have somewhere nice to go while works on the Village Green, weir and Demesne areas are underway. The Chief Executive said he would consider this request.

Update 18th October - SDCC confirms this proposal has been accepted and Lucan House grounds will be open to the public shortly.

Damaged former embassy wall opposite McDonalds/Maxol

Further to my Part 1 update, it was again confirmed that works to fix the wall would commence this month and now it’s been confirmed for October 21st. Unfortunately some trees will need to be removed. See this rolling article for more details and history: https://www.paulgogarty.com/post/embassy-wall-october22

Warning about fake QR codes on parking ticket machines

While this originated in Fingal, the scam could be operating in any county. Aside from the 30-minute SDCC free parking tickets it’s probably better to use the Payzone parking app (or Apcoa or suchlike as appropriate) to avoid such scams, as QR codes are becoming more popular and also because a lot of machines end up out of order when trying to pay cash.
