Lucan To City Centre Core Bus Corridor Scheme (Lucan/Liffey Valley SC/Palmerstown)

Updated: Nov 3

This October 26th 2024 piece adds to January 2023 update further down

Updating this post as An Bord Pleanála have recently approved the plan with minimal changes.

The written plan and all documents are at http://www.lucanscheme.ie

It’s hard to go through so it’s worth looking at the maps first. These are in Volume 1 - General Arrangement Drawings

This will have a huge impact on the Palmerstown Village area. It will also see junction changes at Woodies, which will make it way safer for pedestrians but get rid of the slip road. Any proposal to stop a right hand turn heading from the village onto the N4 was removed before it was added into the scheme following residents and Councillors raising this with SDCC roads officials and the NTA.

However the project itself was part of a national infrastructure plan and as such what wss put forward was not amendable through votes by Councillors. I see logic in many parts of the plan - if we had a bus service fit for purpose - but there are also things that should have been amended.

The deadline for submissions on this plan passed earlier this month.

I advertised this widely before Christmas through 3,300 leaflets in Palmerstown and 6,100 in Lucan east of the Outer Ring Road. I also posted on Facebook. I did not see too many issues raised on the Lucan side nor did I receive any communications from residents in this regard. I did however get a lot of correspondence from Palmerstown, as the issues were more of a direct major impact, and thanks to all those who took the time to share their views.

Details of what was advertised are here: https://lucanscheme.ie/ . Not sure how long this will be online but worth checking out for cross reference.

My submission is attached here:

South Dublin County Council's submission is here:

We await the decision of An Bord Pleanála.
